A smoke detector is a detector that sounds and triggers an alarm after detecting smoke, which can indicate the start of a fire. Before you can use this smoke detector properly you have to add it to the Link. The following type of smoke detector can be added to the link;

Adding the Smoke detector to the link

Before you add the smoke detector to the link take note of the following:

  • Pairing for the first time

At the time when the smoke detector is first removed from its packaging, a red label is in the smoke detector. Do not remove it yet! If there's no red label present, open the smoke detector by turning it counterclockwise from the mounting base and remove the battery.

  • Keep it close to the link when pairing

Ensure that the link is within the field of view during the pairing process.

The following steps explain how to add the smoke detector to the HomeWizard Link App:

  1. Open the 'HomeWizard link' app
  2. Go to the  'My Home' tab at the bottom right of the screen (automatically when opening app)
  3. In the app, go to the 'Home Settings' by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner
  4. Select 'Add devices'
  5. You are in the 'Add new devices' screen.
    • Select smoke detector’ to add the smoke detector
    • If everything is well prepared, press 'next' to start the pairing process
      • Remove the red tab from the smoke detector or
      • Put the battery back in the smoke detector, ensuring the polarity is correct
        • Follow the further instructions on the app
  6. Congratulations, you have added a smoke detector to the HomeWizard link.

View the Smoke detector in the Homewizard link app

Once added, it is possible to see the smoke detector. You will be notified depending on the status of the link.

  1. Open the  'HomeWizard app'
  2. At the bottom of the screen, click on Control’.
  3. You are in the 'control' screen. Find the smoke detector in the added room.

      • Your are in the ‘Device settings’ of the smoke detector you can now view and edit;
        • See the if the sensor has detected smoke
          • Press History” to view the history of the smoke detector
          • Press Device setting’ to change the name, toggle favourite position or manage automation

Placing and installation of the smoke detector

For placing on the ceiling; When placed on the ceiling, fix the sensor in the middle of the room, at least 50 cm from the wall. For placing on the wall;  Make sure the distance between the detector and the ceiling is between 30 cm and 50 cm.

1. Mounting the Smoke detector

Turn the smoke detector (left) from the mounting base.

2. Mark the position

Hold the mounting base at the desired spot on the ceiling/wall and mark the position of the screw holes with a pen.

3. Mounting the bracket

Use the supplied plugs and screws to attach the mounting bracket on the marked spot.

4. Position the smoke detector into the mounting base

Turn the smoke detector (clockwise) into the mounting base until it clicks. Attention: If the battery is not correctly in place the smoke detector will not engage. The smoke detector is now ready for use!

Test the smoke alarm

After installation and at least once per quarter, test all of your alarms to ensure they are operating correctly and are within range of each other. The link will keep you informed when this has to happen.

It is recommended to check visually every week if the LED flashes correctly (every 48 seconds).

Procedure

Press the test button on any alarm for at least 6.5 seconds (count 2 sets of 3 sound sweeps). This will send out a test signal from the alarm; all other connected alarms should receive the signal within a short time. The alarms will emit a short beep and the LED will  flash every 8 seconds for 2 minutes.

NOTE

The test signal will send a reduced RF signal in order to make sure it will work in normal conditions. You will see in the HomeWizard link app if the test was successful.

When the test signal is sent out, the alarms will respond in two ways:

  1. A single beep every 8 seconds indicates that the alarms are connected and functioning.
  2. Three short beeps every 8 seconds indicates a smoke sensor fault. The alarm should be cleaned by running the vacuum (on a low setting) around the smoke alarm chamber and tested again.

If required this indication can be stopped early on each alarm by a short press of the test button.

Battery life

The smoke detector has a battery life of ± 5 years. When the battery is nearing its end of life, a short beep will sound out every 48 seconds for 30 days. The alarm effected by the low battery will only beep, no other connected alarms will sound. It is safe to change batteries in the alarms with outgoing through the learn process again. They will not forget the connection during the battery change process.
